2 Term Ponoka Councillor Ted Dillon Passes Away Over Weekend

The community of Ponoka, Alberta is grieving the passing of Ted Dillon, a dedicated Town Councillor who passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2024.


Ponoka Mayor Kevin Ferguson expressed the profound sorrow felt by Ponoka, stating in a social media post, "With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Councillor Dillon. Before his role on the Town Council, Ted epitomized dedication as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He served as our esteemed Fire Chief and was a cherished friend, embodying the spirit of volunteerism," Mayor Ferguson added.


Ted Dillon was a revered figure in Ponoka, embodying the essence of community spirit. Mayor Ferguson reminisced, "Ted was an icon, a figure beloved by all. As a Council, we shared countless joyful moments and treasured his invaluable wisdom. Personally, Ted was a dear friend, and his absence will be deeply felt."


To honour Councillor Dillon's legacy, flags at the Ponoka Civic Centre and the intersection of Highway 53 and Highway 2A will fly at half-mast throughout March.


During his tenure, Councillor Dillon served the community with distinction for seven years on the Town Council, being first elected in 2017 then being recently re-elected in 2021 contributing to numerous boards and committees.


His dedication extended over 26 years of service to the Town of Ponoka, holding roles as Fire Chief, Director of Community Services, and Director of Protective Services. Additionally, he served as a Director and Vice-President of the Alberta Fire Chiefs Association for eight years.
