Big Horn Sets By-Election Nomination Date for August 22

The Municipal District of Big Horn, Alberta, finds itself heading into a second municipal by-election in just under 20 months since the last general election in 2021.


With the resignation of Ward 1 Councillor Joss Elford, the by-election nomination date has been set for August 22, 2023.


Ward 1 encompasses the Hamlet of Exshaw, Kananaskis, and Seebe Settlements, as well as lands in the Townships 25-26, Range 9, situated to the north of Exshaw.


Councillor Joss Elford's resignation, as reported by the Rocky Mountain Outlook on June 12th, 2023, necessitated this by-election. Elford, who was first elected in the 2021 Municipal Election.


The last by-election took place on July 11th, in Ward 3, when Councillor Alice James was acclaimed. Replacing Ward 3 Councillor Paul Clark.
