Claresholm Sets Mayoral By-Election For Sept. 18th


The town of Claresholm, Alberta scheduled the upcoming Mayoral By-Election for September 18th, following the departure of former Mayor Chelsae Petrovic.


Petrovic, who was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Livingstone-MacLeod in May leaving the position of Mayor to be filled via a by-election.


Petrovic defeated incumbent Mayor Doug MacPherson in the 2021 mayoral election. Her departure from the municipal office after just two years.


With the mayoral position now vacant, the town has initiated the process to elect a new leader. Nominations for the position of Mayor will be accepted until August 21st, 2023, at the Claresholm Town Office. Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their paperwork within the given timeframe to be considered for the upcoming by-election.


In the event that multiple candidates submit their nominations, an election will be held on September 18th. To accommodate early voters, advance voting will take place on September 6th, offering residents an opportunity to cast their votes ahead of the official election day.


The mayoral by-election holds significant importance for the town of Claresholm as it charts a course for its future under new leadership. Residents are keenly watching the process, eager to see who will step up and take the reins of their community.
