FCM Advocates In Washington

Welcome to Municipal Affairs
Today, we’re taking you beyond our borders—because our challenges don’t stop at the 49th parallel.
Municipal leaders are the backbone of our communities, whether in Canada or the United States. And right now, representatives from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) are wrapping up a week long delegation trip to Washington D.C, meeting with our American counterparts to reinforce a crucial message: A tariff war would be devastating—not just for businesses, but for workers, families, and entire communities on both sides of the border.
This isn’t just a big-city issue. The economic ripple effects of trade barriers would hit our rural, northern, and remote regions the hardest.
Their message to U.S Stakeholders, "We must work together. Because whether we live in a small town or a major metropolitan hub, whether we call Canada or the U.S. home—we’re neighbours. And neighbours look out for each other."
Stay tuned as we speak with FCM 2nd Vice President Kathy Valentino, FCM Rural Forum Chair Neal Comeau, and FCM Director Councillor Alysson Storey as they wrap these critical discussions in Washington.
