Six candidates are in the running to secure the coveted one open seat on City Council in Wetaskiwin.

The by-election, scheduled for Tuesday, August 15, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the Drill Hall (4513 50 Avenue in Wetaskiwin), promises to be a crucial event for residents looking to have their voices heard in shaping the future of their city.

According to official list of candidates, the six candidates vying for the position are Joseph Branco, Kaila Commet, Wendy Hoyle, David Jaburek, Damion Jones, and Ather Quaishi.

To help the residents of Wetaskiwin make an informed decision, the Leduc, Nisku, and Wetaskiwin Regional Chamber of Commerce have taken the initiative to host a candidates' public forum. The forum is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, July 26th, from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the Best Western Wayside Inn. This event will provide an excellent opportunity for voters to hear directly from the candidates and understand their stances on critical issues that matter most to the community.

For those who can't make it on Election Day, there will be an advance voting option on Saturday, August 12, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Memorial Arts Centre (5206 50 Street). The advanced voting option allows citizens to cast their ballots ahead of time, providing flexibility for those with busy schedules on Election Day.

The by-election is the result of former councillor Kevin Lonsdale resignation from Council in April of this year.
