Welcome to a special episode of Cross Border Interviews with Chris Brown.
Today on the show, we will be discussing an issue that is of critical importance to the people of Alberta.
Recently, Alberta Municipalities launched their "Think Alberta, Vote Local" campaign, which aims to bring the key issues that matter to their members to the forefront of the 2023 Alberta Provincial election.
One of the primary issues being raised by the Alberta Municipalities is the $30 billion infrastructure deficit Municipalities are dealing with due to as Alberta Municipalities states the government of Alberta has been chronically underfunding municipal infrastructure, and the problem is only going to grow bigger.
Representatives from Alberta Municipalities have stated that this underfunding of municipal infrastructure has been going on for over 15 years, under the current United Conservative Party Government, under the Alberta New Democratic Party Government, and Under the previous Progressive Conservative Governments.
The Alberta Municipalities estimate that the current provincial funding for infrastructure is approximately $1 billion short of what's needed each year.
In response to this situation, the Alberta Municipalities is calling on the next government to step up and allocate $1.75 billion a year for municipal infrastructure.
This is a critical issue affecting Albertans' daily lives, and it's one that we cannot ignore.
Today on the show, we have comments from Alberta Municipalities VP of Cities under 500,000 Mayor Tyler Gandam, and Penhold Mayor Mike Yargeau.
We also had the opportunity to sit down for a one-on-one interview with Mayor Yargeau to hear his thoughts on the matter and see how the lack of funding has impacted communities like Penhold, Alberta.
So sit back, relax, and let's delve into this important topic on Cross Border Interviews with Chris Brown.
