Year in Review with SARM Acting- President Bill Huber

Writer: Municipal Affairs Municipal Affairs

Welcome to Municipal Affairs.

We’re reflecting on a year that has been as challenging as transformative for municipalities.

This past year, our cities, towns, villages, and rural communities have been at the forefront of some of the most pressing issues of our time.

From navigating the financial ripple effects of economic uncertainty to embracing innovation in infrastructure, housing, and ongoing local governments have proven that they are more than just the "closest to the people." They are the problem-solvers, the innovators, and, often, the ones who make things happen when higher levels of government fall short.

We’ve seen mayors and councils wrestle with complex issues like affordable housing shortages, aging infrastructure, and how to tackle the growing impacts of social challenges—all while managing day-to-day services that keep our communities running smoothly.

Joining us today is the President of the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities, Bill Huber, who will help us look back on 2024 and towards 2025.
