Welcome to Cross Border Interviews.
Our goal is to create meaningful municipal conversations that inform, connect, educate and strengthen communities from coast to coast to coast in Canada.
For this edition of Cross Border Interviews, we are honoured to welcome from the City of Chestermere, Alberta Mayor Shannon Dean
In 1992, the Summer Village of Chestermere’s population had increased to 1,043 permanent residents. On March 1, 1993, the Summer Village of Chestermere Lake officially changed its status and name to the Town of Chestermere. In 2014, with a population of 17,203 and expectations of continued growth, Chestermere’s Council undertook consultation with residents to determine whether or not to change the community’s name to ‘city’.
On September 29, 2014 Council decided to apply for city status. On January 1, 2015, the community officially became the City of Chestermere. As it is now, Chestermere is a dynamic junction of economic and social activity, a city achieving a vision as a successful standout Alberta destination. Chestermere residents enjoy a thriving economy, exceptional public services, and a close-knit community that embraces advancement and tradition.
