Community, and Economic Change: SEDA

Today, we’re talking about community economic development—not just as a series of projects or plans, but as a system. A system that connects people, sectors, and places, and helps communities prepare for opportunity when it comes.

For more than 40 years, one organization has played a key role in that work. SEDA is Saskatchewan’s provincial backbone organization for community economic development.

Since 1984, it has supported communities across the province to become investment ready—helping them build the capacity, connections, and confidence needed to grow on their own terms.

What makes SEDA unique is its role as a systems convener. Rather than working in isolation, SEDA focuses on bringing people together—across geographic boundaries, across sectors, and across institutional silos—to enable solution-focused approaches to economic development.

The goal is to create synergy, spark innovation, and support transformative change that is rooted in local communities.

To help us understand how that work happens in practice, and what it means for municipalities and regions across Saskatchewan, we’re joined today by SEDA’s CEO, Verona Thibault.

We’ll talk about SEDA’s role in the province, the challenges and opportunities communities are facing, and what it takes to build strong, investment-ready communities in a changing economic landscape. ------
