"Invisible" Singer Takes Aim at Congress...Again.



Clay Aiken, Season 2 runner up on the American reality show American Idol is looking to join Congress in his second attempt at a congressional seat in his home state of North Carolina.


Aiken, a Democrat, announced via social media that he would be seeking the a congressional seat, "One thing that has not changed is my love for my home state, North Carolina is the the first place that I discovered that I had a voice.


"It was a voice that could be used for more than just singing," Aiken states in his campaign launch video.


Aiken said that the rise of Republican Rep. Marjorie Green and Lauren Boebert, Democrats need to rise up and use their voices, "Those folks aren't quieting down anytime soon, and thats why I'm running for congress."


Aiken will be running in the 6th Congressional District in North Carolina. The 6th Congressional District is currently held by Democratic Rep. David Price who announced earlier in 2021 that he would not be seeking election in 2022.


Aiken is the 8th candidate to announce his intentions to seek the Democratic nomination in the 6th congressional district.


The American Idol alumni ran in 2014 as a Democrat in North Carolinas 2nd Congressional District placing a second to former Republican Congresswoman Renee Ellmers.
