Maverick Party to elect first permanent leader May 14th
The Maverick Party has released the details of the upcoming Leadership Race that will see their first permanent leader elected on May 14th, 2022.
The kick off of the Leadership Race starts on January 3rd, 2022 when candidates will be able to file their paperwork the party.
In order to be considered, candidates must live in Western Canada (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta or British Columbia, or one of the three territories (Nunavut, North West Territories, or Yukon).
Candidates will need to collect 100 Maverick Party membership signatures, the rules document does not outline if party members need to be from different provinces or territories.
The entrance fee for the Leadership race will be $10,000 paid in two instalments, one $5,000 instalment when paperwork is filed to run, and the second $5,000 instalment will be delivered no later than the cut off date of March 25th, 2022.
Leadership candidates will need to criss-cross the western provinces/territories in the new year, as they will be required to sign up 600 new members to the party. Of those 600 members 150 of them must be from not less than thirty different electoral districts in Western Canada.
There are currently 107 ridings in Western Canada, including the three territories.
There is a half-a-million dollar expenses cap during the 5 month leadership race.
The one-member one-vote leadership race will conclude in a preferential ballot the be announced by the Leadership Executive Committee later.
The Maverick Party was launched in January of 2020. Former MP and Government House Whip Jay Hill lead the party in the 44th general election.
