Manitoba Lt. Gov. Filmore set to swear in new Premier this afternoon

Later this afternoon, Manitoba Lieutenant Governor Janice Filmon is expected to swear in Manitoba's Premier-Designate Heather Stefanson.

This comes on the heals of Stefanson winning a victory over former MP Shelly Glover at Saturday's PC Leadership Race.

Stefanson was the caucus favourite to take the leadership of the party, defeated Glover by 363 votes. Stefanson is expected to be sworn in this afternoon by Lt. Gov. Fimore.

Since the announcement of the results on Saturday Glover had not conceded defeat to her rival and earlier Monday had asked for an investigation into the results.

In a letter obtained by provincial media in Manitoba, Glover's Lawyer wrote the Lt. Gov. Filmore asking for the swearing in to be delayed.

“From the information given to me, there would appear to be substantial irregularities affecting the result in the counting of the votes. As a result, I will shortly be seeking an Order of the Court of Queen’s Bench declaring that the election results are invalid and requiring a new vote. I would respectfully request that you defer the swearing-in of a new Premier of Manitoba until the Court has ruled on this matter,” the letter states.

While it is not expected to delay the swearing in, set to take place at 2:00 PM CDT (1:00 PM MST).
