ABMunis Enters Its Reid-Mickler Era

ree

Alberta Municipalities has announced a change in leadership at the top of the organization. The Board of Directors has appointed Deborah Reid-Mickler as Interim President, effective immediately. She will serve in this role through the organization’s 2025 Convention and Trade Show.

The announcement follows Monday’s municipal elections, in which former President and Mayor of Wetaskiwin, Tyler Gandam, was defeated.

Reid-Mickler joined the Alberta Municipalities Board in 2023 and currently serves as Vice President and Director of Villages and Summer Villages. She was first elected to the Village of Duchess in southeastern Alberta in 2017, where she has served as Deputy Mayor and Councillor.

The Alberta Municipalities in a press release, expressed its deep appreciation to Tyler Gandam for his years of service and leadership. Gandam joined the Board in 2018 as Director for Cities up to 500,000, later serving as Vice President and as a member of the Alberta Municipal Services Corporation (AMSC) Board, before being elected President in 2023.

During his tenure, Gandam played a key role in strengthening Alberta Municipalities’ relationships with local governments across the province. His efforts ensured that municipalities of all sizes—from Summer Villages to major Cities—had their voices heard and represented.

Alberta Municipalities confirmed that its next President will be elected by members at the Annual General Meeting during the upcoming Convention, which will take place in Calgary, Alberta, from November 12 to 14.
