Building Global Connections: SUMA’s Visit to Sri Lanka

Welcome to Municipal Affairs.
In September, a delegation from SUMA — the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association — traveled to Sri Lanka to meet with the Federation of Sri Lankan Local Government Authorities as part of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ PMI-WILL project.
The visit focused on exchanging knowledge and perspectives: from exploring the roles and responsibilities of SUMA’s Board of Directors, to discussing the caucus structure, the member services SUMA provides, and collaborative sessions on member engagement, advocacy, and communications strategies.
This isn’t SUMA’s first international partnership. Previously, representatives travelled to Benin, West Africa, under the same project, and these opportunities continue to highlight the importance of learning from sister federations across the globe.
On today’s episode of Municipal Affairs, we’ll hear more about that experience. I’ll be joined by Randy Goulden, President of SUMA, and Mr. Mahir, Secretary to the Federation of Sri Lankan Local Government Associations.
Stay with us — the conversation is next.
