Stephanie Kusie, Calgary Midnapore Member of Parliament (MP) has announced that she is backing former Calgary Midnapore resident and Carleton MP Pierre Poilievre to be the next leader of the Conservative Party of Canada.

Kusie made the announcement alongside Marlene Poilievre, Pierre's mother.

In the video posted to social media, Kusie said "I'm pleased to announce that I will be endorsing Pierre Poilievre as the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the next Prime Minsiter of Canada."

In the video, Marlene Poilievre spoke about Pierre's background and his ambitions, "When he was barely a teenager at 13 he was wanting me to take him to the board (meetings)." Marlene was on the Constituency association for former Alberta MLA Jim Dinning. "Thats where he started his political career," Poilievre stated in the video.

Kusie siad that since being elected she has gotten close to the Carleton MP, and now considers him a friend, " When I decided to put myself forward for the nomination here in Calgary Midnapore he was so kind to offer his support."

The Calgary MP said in the video that she is often overwhelmed by the outpouring of messages from her constituents about Pierre being the next leader of the party, "Many people say he is the only person who can hold Justin Trudeau to account, and I think there is alot of truth to that.

"I also believe that he is the only one who can unify our party at this time and get it back on track," Kusie added.

Kusie becomes the second Calgary based MP to publicly back Poilievre in the yet to be called leadership race.
