Calgary Votes 2025: A Better Calgary Party Launches

Welcome to Municipal Affairs. I'm Christopher Brown.

Today, we have an exciting development to discuss—the launch of the first political party focused solely on municipal affairs in the City of Calgary.

It's called A Better Calgary Party, and it's ready to make a significant impact on our beloved city. The provincial government created legislation earlier this year paving the way for political parties in Alberta's two largest communities - Calgary and Edmonton.

Bill 20, the Municipal Affairs Statutes Amendment Act, was tabled in the legislature in April.

A Better Calgary Party aims to tell the story of what makes Calgary the best city to live, work, play, raise a family, and do business in, and how a municipal party can ensure this vision for generations to come. This big-tent, membership-driven organization is dedicated to fostering community involvement and attracting individuals passionate about public service.

Jon Horsman, a spokesperson for the party, and a Ward 4 resident, and fellow spokesperson Cheryl Munson, a Ward 7 officially kicked off the party announcement at the Holiday in South Calgary Wednesday Night to a packed room of approximately 350 attendees - including one Calgary City Councillor, a former MLA, and former MLA. Also in attendance were numerous candidates who ran in the previous 2021 Municipal election.

This is Municipal Affairs.
