Welcome to Municipal Affairs.
Last month, municipal leaders from across Atlantic Canada—mayors, deputy mayors, wardens, and more—convened in Saint John, New Brunswick for the Atlantic Mayors’ Congress. Against a backdrop of growing cross-border trade tensions between Canada and the United States, the theme of this year’s gathering was clear: collaboration.
From large urban centres to small rural communities, leaders came together to confront shared challenges, explore common ground, and chart a course forward for their municipalities.
Municipal Affairs was on the ground at the Congress, speaking with Nova Scotia Municipal Leaders at the heart of local governance—asking why they came, what they hoped to achieve, and what collaboration truly means in today’s municipal landscape. We caught up with Lunenburg Mayor Jamie Myra to discuss his views on the congress and what brings him to this year's congress.
