Foremost, a tight-knit community in the Badlands of Alberta, is reeling from the loss of one of its pillars, Mayor Lorne Buis, who passed away over the weekend. Buis, who served on Council in Foremost for an impressive 23 years and as councillor, deputy mayor, and finally elected Mayor in 2018 was not only deeply embedded in local governance but also in the fabric of the community itself.

The County of Forty Mile Fire Department expressed their sorrow on social media, highlighting Buis's role as a member and brother within the department, "It is with a heavy heart that the County of Forty Mile No. 8 and the Forty Mile Fire Service mourn the loss of one of our members and brother yesterday, Foremost District Chief Lorne Buis."

Buis's family had a longstanding tradition of service to Foremost; his grandfather and father both served as mayors before him. Stepping into his turn at the helm, Buis continued this legacy of dedication to his community.

In an interview with The Commentator, Buis spoke fondly of Foremost, describing it as a "great little community" with all the necessary amenities and a strong sense of unity among local businesses. His words reflected his deep-rooted pride in Foremost and his commitment to its prosperity.

As Foremost mourns the loss of Mayor Lorne Buis, his legacy of service and devotion to the community will undoubtedly endure, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him and the town he loved so dearly.
