The Alberta government is ordering Edmonton and Calgary to change their land-use bylaws, raising a critical question about the future of local democracy.

The Rural Municipalities of Alberta warns that while today’s intervention targets two major cities, tomorrow it could affect any municipality in the province.

So, where does provincial authority end—and local decision-making begin?

Joining us live this Tuesday, October 13th, is Rural Municipalities of Alberta President Kara Westerlund, to discuss what this decision means for municipalities across Alberta, and whether local governments are losing control over the communities they were elected to serve.

I’m Christopher Brown. This is Municipal Affairs—and our conversation starts now. ------
