She's Back! Smith sets aim on UCP Nomination, and UCP Leadership
Consider her back and ready for a fight.
Danielle Smith the former leader of the Official Opposition and Leader of the Wildrose Party is making a political comeback.
Smith announced via an interview with The Western Standard that she would be seeking the nomination of her home riding of Livingstone-Macleod.
The former MLA says that she is returning to politics because she is upset the UCP cancelled its April 9 general meeting and moved the leadership vote to mail-in ballots.
She has publicly stated that she wants the UCP to reverse the decision and either hold the vote in person in Red Deer or set up polls in all major population centres to allow people easy access.
Smith was MLA for Highwood from 2012 to 2015, and Leader of the Official Opposition from 2012 to 2014 before resigning and crossing the floor to join the PC government under Jim Prentice.
She was defeated in the 2015 PC nomination in Highwood, and resigned from politics in 2015.
