With artificial intelligence moving from buzzword to everyday tool, a big question is facing local governments everywhere: are municipalities ready for the rise of AI? Are they leading the way in innovation, or quietly falling behind?
Across council chambers and municipal offices, AI is beginning to influence how services are delivered, how decisions are made, and how limited resources are stretched further than ever before. But with opportunity comes risk — and the need for strong governance, clear strategy, and people-first leadership.
Today we’re exploring what AI really means for municipalities. Joining us is Daphne Thomson, who works at the intersection of local government, technology, and the people trying to do more with less.
Daphne is a former Director of Legislative Services and an MBA candidate with a focus on AI leadership. She supports councils and municipal staff with practical, governance-first approaches to emerging technology — cutting through complexity and focusing on what actually works.
She’s also the founder of Catch the Beat, a digital strategy and AI advisory firm.
Today, we’ll get to the bottom of the role AI can and should play in municipalities — and, more importantly, what local governments can do right now to get ahead of the game.
