The View From Rural Saskatchewan

Welcome to Municipal Affairs

After more than twenty years at the council table, last November marked the end of an era in the Rural Municipality of Meota No. 468.

Longtime Reeve, Sherry Jimmy, decided it was time to hang up her political hat. As the first woman to hold the position in her community, she helped guide Meota through seasons of change, challenges, and growth.

Now, with new leadership in place, we had the chance to sit down with Sherry earlier this month to reflect on her time in office.

In our conversation, she shared her thoughts on the state of rural municipalities across Saskatchewan, the pressures facing local governments today, and what lies ahead for communities like hers.

We also talked about what it meant to serve as a trailblazer, the importance of local voices in shaping the future, and where Meota—and rural Saskatchewan more broadly—goes from here.
