Tierney On The Move

This week, more than twelve hundred delegates from communities of every size have come together under one roof — right here at Calgary’s TELUS Convention Centre — for what Alberta Municipalities calls the province’s largest municipal gathering: the 2025 Alberta Municipalities Convention and Trade Show.

It’s a week where local leaders share ideas, debate issues, and set the direction for the year ahead.

And one of the most anticipated moments came when delegates heard from a national voice.

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities sent its First Vice-President, Tim Tierney, to address municipal leaders from every corner of Alberta.

After the speech, we caught up with Vice-President Tierney to talk about why attending this year’s convention matters, the message he wanted Alberta’s municipal officials to take home, and how an upcoming trip to Salt Lake City may help shape solutions to the growing challenges facing municipalities — not only here in Alberta, but across the country.
