What SUMA Is Looking For From The Fall Legislative Sitting

The Saskatchewan Legislature has officially opened its fall sitting, following the delivery of the 2026 Speech from the Throne. The government has outlined priorities ranging from public safety and disaster preparedness to community infrastructure and affordability.
There are some announcements that matter to municipalities, including support for rural policing, wildfire resilience and community rinks. But there are also some notable gaps.
There were no new commitments to tackle municipal revenue sharing, roads and bridges, water and wastewater infrastructure, or the broader financial pressures facing local governments.
As MLAs return to the Legislature, SUMA hopes municipal issues will be front and centre in the conversations and decisions that shape Saskatchewan’s future.
Because strong communities are the foundation of a strong province.
Today, we’ll talk with SUMA President Randy Goulden about the opening of the legislative sitting, what municipalities heard in the Speech from the Throne, and what SUMA hopes to see from the provincial government in the months ahead.
All that today on Municipal Affairs. I’m Christopher Brown
