One Year: A Journey Across Municipal Affairs
In 2025, one resolution changed everything.
One Year: Journey into Municipal Affairs is my personal and unfiltered account of my mission to travel across the country and meet the people who quietly shape Canada’s communities: municipal leaders. From the windswept Prairies of Saskatchewan to the wildfire-scarred resilience of northern Manitoba, from convention halls in Calgary to coffee shops in Atlantic Canada, this book captures the human side of the level of government closest to the people.
What began as a professional journey quickly became something more. Along the way, the I confronted not only the realities of municipal governance—democracy, defeat, renewal, and service—but also my own mortality. Battling health challenges while crisscrossing thousands of kilometres, I discovered that municipal politics is not about power or prestige. It is about people. It is about resilience. It is about showing up.
Through intimate conversations with mayors, councillors, and reeves, One Year reveals the emotional weight carried by those who serve their communities without glory or recognition. It explores the divide between rural and urban Canada, the quiet strength of small towns, and the shared belief that local leadership remains the heartbeat of the nation.
This is not just a story about politics. It is a story about purpose, perseverance, and the power of human connection.
Because sometimes, the most important journeys aren’t about where you go—but about who you meet along the way.
