SUMA and Eco-West Canada Sign MOU

This past weekend Municipal leaders from across Canada gathered in Calgary for the annual Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) convention, and we explore an exciting story of collaboration and innovation that promises to drive sustainable growth for municipalities in the Province of Saskatchewan.

On the afternoon of June 8th, 2024, during the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Annual Conference and Trade Show in Calgary, Alberta, a landmark Memorandum of Understanding was signed. This pivotal agreement marks a formal partnership between Eco-West Canada, a subsidiary of the Association of Manitoba Bilingual Municipalities (AMBM), and the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA).

Representing the AMBM was President Ivan Normandeau who was with Mrs. Randy Golden, President of SUMA, to ink this partnership.

This agreement sets the stage for unprecedented collaboration aimed at fostering sustainable economic development through environmentally responsible infrastructure and initiatives in the Province of Saskatchewan

One of the key outcomes of this partnership is the creation of the Municipal Eco-Action Centre by SUMA, with support from Eco-West Canada. This center will assist member municipalities in developing sustainable projects across various domains, including transportation, waste management, energy production and use, and capacity building. Eco-West Canada’s expertise will also play a crucial role in helping SUMA prepare funding applications for green infrastructure and climate change adaptation, as well as achieving zero-emissions targets.
